The thumbnail version of your profile picture is the smaller version you and your friends see next to your name when not looking at your profile (timeline). To adjust what part of your profile picture serves as the thumbnail:
- open your profile
- hover your mouse over your current profile picture
- and then click the change picture link that appear in the top right corner
- note the picture below
- select edit thumbnail option
- click on the image and move it arround until your face appear as thumbnail :)
- then save your changes
- finished and enjoy your thumbnail :P
